CCA’s Annual Convention Addresses Spectrum, 5G, Next Gen Networks, Security, & Policy Initiatives

FCC Commissioner Nathan Simington Addresses 5G and Closing Digital Divide


Portland, OR – CCA’s Annual Convention opened today with keynotes, educational sessions, and wireless innovators focused on spectrum, 5G, next generation networks, security, and policy initiatives. CCA’s Annual Convention takes place September 27-29 at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland.


FCC Commissioner Nathan Simington kicked-off the keynote program addressing the need for robust deployment of 5G services for those who need it most and called on policymakers to pursue spectrum policy. Commissioner Simington said he hopes to see the 5G revolution create new application frameworks and new industrial possibilities that will help to bridge the digital divide.


“I thank Commissioner Simington for sharing his insights on 5G and the importance of future innovation, and we appreciate his work in addressing issues important to competitive carriers,” said Steven K. Berry, President and CEO of CCA, who spoke to virtually to Convention attendees. “As I prepare to retire at the end of this year, I want to thank the Board of Directors and membership for their steadfast support and dedication to CCA. It has been an honor to serve as President and CEO, and I am proud that CCA has grown into a leading and well-respected advocacy organization in Washington. The association is in good hands with Tim Donovan as incoming President & CEO and Lucy Hodas as COO in January.”


Keynote Program


Keynote speakers on Wednesday, September 28 included Salim Kouidri, SVP, technology, T-Mobile, Bringing 5G to All; Steve Zitnik, EVP and CTO of Interop Technologies, A Messaging Landscape Update; and Loris Zaia, VP major accounts, Mavenir, The Case for Open Architectures in Rural Operator Networks.


The keynote program continued on Thursday, September 29 with David Eckard, VP of Strategy and Technology of North America, Nokia, Enabling the Power of AND; Mike Keegan, CEO of TNS, Transitioning to Next Generation Networks and the Latest on STIR/SHAKEN; and Bob Chiodo, VP, Americas of Syniverse, Roaming… Preparing for What is Next.


The FierceWireless Executive Panel, Mobile Meets Fixed: How 5G Fixed Wireless Traffic Will Grow Alongside Mobile, sponsored by Ericsson, hosted executives from Cellcom, Ericsson North America, GCI, and UScellular who examined mobile wireless ubiquity and how carriers, suppliers, and government policymakers can successfully address demands for ubiquitous 5G.
